Carl WilsonThe former Chairman of the Castle Confiscated Assets Allocation Committee (CCAAC) Carl Wilson, is in the new again; in a case very much related to his count losses in the infamous saga of the confiscation of impounded port vehicles.

Carl Wilson is accused by one Ben Quarshie of defrauding him of GH¢57,000 (¢570million old Ghana Cedis) with an accomplice, one Prince Abu, who gave his designation as an aide to Vice President, John Dramani Mahama, also extorting GH¢20,700 (¢270million old Ghana Cedis) from the said Quarshie.

The total amount involved in the scam, as Today Newspaper gathered, is GH¢84,000 (GH¢840,000million). While Carl Wilson promised to get some impounded cars for Quarshie to buy, Prince Abu told Quarshie that the Ghana High Commission in London would need some Ghanaians to replace staff of the commission who had been laid off.

Abu therefore took the said amount (GH¢20,700) FROM Quarshie with the assurance that his people would be offered the vacant jobs at the Ghana High Commission in London. But that assurance would not materialize, and like Carl Wilson, Abu also started playing pranks with Quarshie. It was too difficult for Quarshie to organise these people because he runs a non-governmental organisation, which main focus is on youth development.

President John Evans Atta MillsPresident John Evans Atta Mills has indicated that he will not be influenced by some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to dismiss some District Chief Executives (DCE’s) for alleged non-performance.

“What the President would do or not do about DCE’s would be determined by how well or not well they perform”, Mr. Koku Anyidoho, Director of Communication at the Presidency, said.

He made the President’s reaction known to journalists after a closed-door meeting with the last batch of DCE’s in the Northern Region on Tuesday, April 20.

Mr. Anyidoho said the President made his sentiments known when responding to questions at the meeting about calls by some party supporters to dismiss some DCE’s for non-performance.

Mr. Anyidoho described the meeting as a frank encounter between the President and the DCE’s.

President Mills, however, charged the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to be more innovative and proactive in addressing development challenges of the people.

J J RawlingsPresident John Evans Atta Mills has directed the Chief of Staff to, as a matter of urgency secure “a holding place” for former President Jerry John Rawlings and his family while steps are taken to relocate or find a permanent abode for the former first family.

The President further directed the Chief of Staff to ensure that investigations are carried out to ascertain the cause of the fire.
The President gave the directive in a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and signed by the Deputy Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The Accra Ridge residence of ex-President Jerry John Rawlings and his family was rocked on Saint Valentine’s Day yesterday by loud explosions and a raging fire.

The blazing fire and subsequent pall of smoke which lasted several hours, also left behind mounds of ashes, debris, and smoldering personal belongings- the cause of which curious Ghanaians wait for the Ghana Fire Service to disclose. Aside a wrapped wooden stool, a boxer’s punching bag and a few household items including a Ghana-must-go bag, everything was devoured by the ‘merciless’ fire.

The early morning inferno raged in the midst of an unexpected heavy downpour which flooded some parts of the nation’s capital, Accra.

Journalists were initially barred from entering the premises because the residence of the former president was said to be a security zone. The lighting system in the house completely went off, as explosions reverberated through the area, and eventually the headlight of the first Fire Service water tender that arrived at the scene was used for illumination.

But Badu overly impressed officials of Udinese in his first day of training on Wednesday that they have named his in their 20-man squad for the game. The fact that he has been considered for the clash against giants AC Milan on Friday means he is highly rated.
This is an indication that Badu has cemented his reputation as an influential player and one to be taken seriously for the future. Badu secured the work permit to play in the Itlaian top-flight on Monday and Udinese's decision has placed him in the Ghanaian history books.
The 19-year-old arrived in Italy on Wednesday morning to begin his career with Udinese following an excellent showing at the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola last month.
His agent Goran ‘Super Agent’ Milovanovic secured the lucrative deal with Udinese after the youngster helped Ghana win the U20 World Cup in Egypt late last year. The Super Agent is credited for securing lucrative and big clubs for Ghanaian players, ensuring that they will get regular playing time.
With Udinese exhausting their quota clubs across Europe including Paris St Germain and German side Hanover contacted the Serie A side for a loan deal for Badu. But another foreign player was dropped from their list to make way for the Ghanaian enforcer.
His performance at the Africa Cup of Nations further attracted interest which prompted the loan offer from the two clubs to boost their squad before the winter transfer window shuts. But Udinese, who are struggling this season, say they want to keep Badu to boost their chances in league affirming the 19-year-old as one of the best young midfielders in the world.
Badu will join his Ghanaian colleague Kwadwo Asamoah in the Udinese camp for the AC Milan game.
